Meals at the manger

Many of the 881 Christmas Eve worshipers at First Lutheran, Greensboro, N.C. (and a Thrivent Financial for Lutherans grant) enabled the congregation to donate 1,836 pounds of food to needy neighbors.

Many of the 881 Christmas Eve worshipers The 2008 collection of 1,500 pounds inspired the church to make it a statewide campaign (Meals at the Manger). Organizers urged churches to set up manger scenes in their yards and collect food.

"Given the economic crisis and the number of our neighbors out of work, isn't Christmas Eve the perfect time to affirm our love for the Christ Child by affirming our love for our neighbors?" said Frank Moore, First's director of community ministries.
