Rex Reyes, general secretary of the National Council of Churches in the Philippines, called for "genuine" trials of political murder suspects and an end to political "warlordism." After 57 people were massacred in November on their way to file documents for another leader's political candidacy, police arrested Andal Ampatuan Jr., mayor of Datu Unsay, and recommended that his father, Datu Andal Ampatuan Sr., governor of Maguindanao province, face charges. Both denied involvement in the killings.
