A Seattle congregation said it would close a shelter for up to 20 homeless men after a partner organization refused to conduct sex offender background checks. Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and SHARE, a homeless shelter network, began operating the shelter last spring at Calvary Lutheran, an empty building owned by Our Redeemer. In September, a sex offender was removed from the shelter and new residents were not allowed in. According to the Ballard [Wash.] News-Tribune, SHARE will move or close the shelter.
