Kenyans decry Swedish move

Walter Obare Omwanza, archbishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenya, condemned the Church of Sweden's Nov. 8 consecration of Eva Brune as bishop of Stockholm. Brune is in a legal same-sex union. Omwanza said women's ordination was at the center of this "rejection of Christendom," and Swedish Lutherans had "decided to go apostate by consecrating a lesbian woman." The ELCK will bring its concerns to the 2010 Lutheran World Federation Assembly in Stuttgart, Germany, said John Halakhe, the church's general secretary.
