Then a door, now a tree

Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, helped plant the first of 500 trees Nov. 1 in the Luther Garden. Kasper and other world Christian leaders met in Wittenberg, Germany, where Martin Luther nailed the 95 Theses to the door of the Castle Church. The trees are part of the background for the celebration in 2017 of the anniversary of the Reformation.
