Despite the recession, more than two-thirds of the 1,500 congregations in a recent survey reported that contributions for the first half of 2009 had increased (37 percent) or held steady (34 percent). The study was part of a project of the Alban Institute and the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University. It also showed that growth in attendance over the past five years tracks with increase in donations.
