Pass up passing the peace?

Congregations are deciding how to cope with the N1H1 flu threat, but the ELCA recommends that they consider passing up the practice of passing the peace with handshakes and hugs ("Worship in Times of Public Health Concerns"). At St. John Lutheran Church, Carnegie, Pa., the solution is small bottles of hand sanitizer in the pews. "Someone suggested we eliminate the peace, but a lot of people look forward to it," said Bruce P. Nordeen, pastor.
