Disaster-relief ethics set

More than 20 faith-based organizations produced ethical guidelines on addressing the spiritual and emotional needs of disaster victims. The guidelines, released by the National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, warn against inappropriate proselytizing and discrimination based on "culture, gender, age, sexual orientation, spiritual/religious practices and disability." Kevin Massey, a National VOAD board member and director for ELCA Domestic Disaster Response, said, "As significant as the adoption of these points of consensus is the cooperation and conversation that took place among these partners to form them."
