ELCA members sent $20,000 through ELCA Disaster Response for food, water, medical transportation and other care for people caught in the middle of a political crisis in Honduras. When removed-president Jose Manuel Zelaya secretly returned to the country in September, it put pressure on current ruler Roberto Micheletti, said Raquel Rodriguez, ELCA Global Mission. A national curfew, arrests, electrical shutdowns and more have created difficulties for citizens, she said. ELCA Global Mission is coordinating the response with Action by Churches Together partners.
