Online newsletter Lifenews.com reported, and later retracted, on Oct. 2 that the ELCA and several other denominations were lobbying through the Religious Institute on Sexual Morality, Justice and Healing for taxpayer funding for abortion. Both the ELCA and the Church of the Brethren sent out notices disputing the Lifenews.com report. The ELCA Washington Office said officials are working for a commitment that "health-care reform will not be used to increase the opportunities for public funding of abortions."

The ELCA is against public funding of abortion? That's a surprise considering George Tiller the Baby Killer was a member in good standing of an ELCA church and had 60,000 murders to his credit.
