Burmese baptized

Paw Dow is baptized by Tom Papazoglakis (left), priest of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church, Pewaukee, Wis., and Poe Taw, a Burma pastor.

Over the years, area Lutherans and Episcopalians have helped settle 15 families of Burmese refugees and attended many of their celebrations. On Oct. 4, Ascension (Waukesha) and Galilee (Pewaukee) Lutheran churches gathered at St. Bartholomew for the first Burmese baptism. Four other young people were also baptized. Due to a Baptist influence, Burma's Karen people believe in baptism by immersion at an age of awareness and desire.
