People of African descent live in constant fear of racially motivated attacks, according to a report from the ELCA-supported Moscow Protestant Chaplaincy. Nearly 60 percent of the city’s 10,000 black and African residents have been the victims of physical attacks, including shootings, stabbings and beatings, the study reported. Some 80 percent were verbally abused. Many of those surveyed said they avoid taking the metro and don’t go outside during national holidays or sporting events.
