Tour de Revs ends at assembly

Pastors log 2,800 on a bamboo bicycle

Riding their bamboo bicycle-built-for three, Fred A. Soltow (left), Ron Schlak and David A. Twedt, pastors from the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod, arrive at the Churchwide Assembly Aug. 20.

captThey took 100 days and a route of 13,000 miles — including 2,800 on the bike — through all 65 synods to get to Minneapolis. Their tour wasn’t about speed, but getting support for ELCA World Hunger activities.

Contributions are $175,000, with more still being counted. But what counts most, they say, is to keep the tour on the road to fight world hunger. Join it at the Tour de Revs web site.

I applaud the REVS for investing the time and energy and legs in this novel endeavor.  Also to be applauded are their families and the congregations they serve, without whom they could not have implemented this vision!

We hosted the REVS in Seattle, and had a great experience in their sojourn with us.

Blessings to you, Fred, Ron, and Dave!
