Lutheran Counseling Services , an ELCA and Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod agency in Florida, helped create a coffeehouse ministry at military chapel sites near Kandahar, Afghanistan. LCS funds purchased ceramic cups (to replace standard issue plastic cups), two commercial coffeemakers and more than 500 pounds of coffee. As the chaplain’s office put it: “Sharing a cup of coffee is all it takes to [make] the difference between a good day and something worse.”
