This summer, the Church of England promoted a two-for-one service that allows couples to combine their wedding ceremony with a child’s baptism. The “hatch and match” liturgy emerged when Church of England research showed that “one in five couples who come to church for a wedding already have children, together or from a previous relationship.” Bishop John Broadhurst of Fulham said sarcastically that “it is a pity they have not put in a funeral for grandma as well.”
