Nearly half the youth in Woodbury, N.J., participate in the reduced-price school lunch program. To help during the summer, St. Stephen Lutheran Church —at the urging of member Lenore Cronlund—and the Greater Woodbury Cooperative Ministries in 2005 began offering families five boxes each week that contain breakfast, lunch and a prayer (and a book per child each week). More than 5,000 boxes were distributed by mid-July, well on track to hand out 10,000 for the summer. Cronlund said 295 children from 142 families were helped.
