Learning life lessons

Children aged 8 to 11 create lyrics and movements to talk about God’s justice during the New Ground Day Camp last summer at The Wartburg Adult Care Community, an ELCA and Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod ministry in Mount Vernon, N.Y.

Jim O’Hanlon

Based on the theme, “Just for Life,” campers learned life lessons, sang for senior residents and talked about how church can be a help for conflicts and emotional issues.

Developed out of post-9/11 Lutheran Disaster Response efforts, the camp was sponsored by The Wartburg; Camp Koinonia, Highland Lake, N.Y.; and United Lutheran, an ELCA congregation in Mount Vernon that rents worship space from The Wartburg. Camp was scheduled for this July too.
