France will consider banning burqas, a traditional head-to-toe covering worn by some Muslim women, Religion News Service reported June 24.
France’s 5 to 6 million-member Muslim community is reportedly divided over the issue.
A parliamentary commission was charged with studying the possible ban.
Five years ago, the country banned headscarves, worn by many Muslim girls, in public schools.
