Nilton Giese, a Lutheran pastor from Brazil, and general secretary of CLAI, a Latin American church council, said the ecumenical movement must take the side of the poor and the excluded for its preaching to remain rooted in the Gospel. “To forget the poor is a constant danger for the church and for the world,” Giese said in Matanzas, Cuba.
