Gettysburg students receive peace grant to establish Nepal library and more...

• With a $10,000 grant from Davis Projects of Peace, Gettysburg [Pa.] College students Jacquelyn Powell and Sneha Shrestha are establishing a library this summer at the Bidhyodaya School in Jhonchhen, a shanty settlement outside Kathmandu, Nepal. A nongovernmental organization will help the students create the library, hold a six-week book workshop, and publish two culturally relevant bilingual children’s books.

• Darrel D. Colson, 54, was elected president of Wartburg College, Waverly, Iowa, effective July 1. Colson previously served as provost and dean of Centenary College, Shreveport, La. He succeeds Jack R. Ohle, who resigned in April 2008 to become president of Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Peter, Minn. William E. Hamm, former president of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education, served as interim.
