This senior pastor sleeps on floors

At Ascension in Thousand Oaks, Calif., youth ministry and the youth minister boast longevity

The years of ministry and life haven’t slowed Larry Wagner down. He’s still able to sleep on floors, ride buses and whitewater raft with young people — ministry often left to younger youth directors or associate pastors. Although most youth won’t have their senior pastor with them, those from Ascension Lutheran Church, Thousand Oaks, Calif., will. Larry W. Wagner wouldn’t miss it for the world. Besides, it’s in his job description.

Wagner is a rare breed: He agreed to move into the senior pastor position at the church — but only if he could keep youth ministry (and music) as part of his call.
