In a May statement, the National Council of Churches of India praised a secular coalition government’s win over the Bharatiya Janata Party, often accused by opponents as having a Hindu nationalist agenda.
The council of 30 Orthodox, Lutheran and other Protestant churches issued the statement after the United Progressive Alliance won 262 of 543 seats in India’s parliament.
