The ELCA provided $3,000 to help clean schools and assist low-income families to purchase disinfectants to safeguard against influenza in Mexico.
The funds were sent to Amextra, an ELCA companion ministry, and were used in Lomas where there is no government assistance.
Raquel E. Rodriguez, ELCA director for the Latin America and Caribbean continental desk, who was in Mexico City April 22-25, at the height of the influenza scare, was “impressed by how disciplined and responsive people were when the government took action” canceling public events and closing all schools.
