Recession: A 'crisis of trust'?

The Church and Society Commission of the Conference of European Churches said European Union efforts to deal with the global economic downturn through extensive public debt “is unsustainable, unethical and unacceptable, and will only postpone the crisis, but not contribute to its solution.”

In a May 7 letter to EU leaders, the group called the downturn “to a large extent a crisis of trust” that calls into question “deregulation, the primacy of economic criteria in all areas of life, as well as an overemphasis on profit and growth.”
