Bat Mitzvah: Florida pastor helps

William J. Magee, pastor of St. Matthias Lutheran Church, Clearwater, Fla., signed up for weekly Hebrew classes at Temple Ahavat Shalom, Palm Harbor.

After more than a year, some classmates who didn’t have a bat mitzvah as girls wanted Magee to help lead their service.

Magee asked Rabbi Gary Klein if it would be OK: “I didn’t want to offend anyone.” It was—and Magee led nonsectarian prayers at the April 24 service.

It's good to see Lutherans working together with Jewish people.  Pastor Magee must have made an impression for them to let him be a part of their sacred service.
