Postville, Iowa: Walking to remember May 2008 raid

Some 600 people participated in a May 12 prayer service and walk in Postville, Iowa, to commemorate the one-year anniversary of an immigration raid on a local meat processing plant.

Among ELCA leaders present was Northeastern Iowa Synod Bishop Steven Ullestad (second row, second from left), who spoke at the prayer service: “Our children know what it is to have their own government invade their community, remove their parents or the parents of their friends, and leave their families or the families of their friends without homes or food or a means of making a living.”
