Human sexuality still troubles the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. During the first day of its Nov. 17-20 meeting, the ELCA Church Council discussed the Dec. 31 removal of St. Francis and First United Lutheran churches in San Francisco from the roster of congregations (see December, page 38). Prior to expulsion, the two congregations served a five-year suspension for ordaining people not approved for ordination because they are practicing homosexuals.
