After children at Good Shepherd Lutheran, La Crosse, Wis., learned the story of Jesus feeding the 5,000, they challenged the congregation to collect 5,000 food items. They collected 5,008 items for the local pantry—and were amazed at what 5,008 pieces of food looked like stacked together.
It was pound for pound at Hope Lutheran Church, Cedar Hill, Texas. During Sunday school, the students were weighed. Members were then challenged to donate enough food to match the children’s combined weight — 2,500 pounds — in five weeks.

Confirmation classes from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Marietta, Ga., have the right stuff when it comes to reaching out to those in need. One Sunday they met at Build-A-Bear and made 27 stuffed animals for patients of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.
