Senior living goes 'smart'

A project under way at the Lutheran Home at Topton (Pa.), replaces cottages for its senior citizen residents with 70 high-tech “smart homes” with computers systems that will monitor blood pressure and automatically dispense medications — and remind residents when to take them.

The Topton site is affiliated with Diakon Lutheran Social Ministries whose spokesman Bill Swanger said, “Now that the baby boomers are retiring, seniors are highly wired and used to using electronics.”
