Ann Sutherland Howard uses Jesus’ words from the Sermon on the Mount as spurs to consider afresh the meaning of discipleship. The author is the executive director of The Beatitudes Society, a new organization building a national network of progressive Christian seminarians, divinity school graduates and others serving in churches and organizations around the country.
Howard writes: “The Beatitudes give us not only a way to see God, but a way to see our world, and they give us something concrete to do about what we see, as they call us to participate in God’s kingdom.”
This inspiring paperback looks at each of the Beatitudes and how one member of the society lives it. Her examples are people in their 20s and 30s. Howard ends the book with a plea to Christians to be the salt and light in a constantly changing world (The Alban Institute, 2009).

Just a word of thanks--Takk!! I'm honored to be in The Lutheran, and hope that this is a helpful and accessible resource for small-group study about the Beatitudes."
