The Vatican warned that “bitter disputes” among religious groups would break out if some were allowed to use domain names, saying that such a practice “could provoke competing claims among theological and religious traditions.”
It made its recommendation to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, prior to its March meeting.
The Vatican, however, has it’s own Web address: www.vatican.va — with .va qualifying as a country domain.
