After computer programmer Tim Mueller lost his job in January, his congregation — Gloria Dei Lutheran, Urbandale, Iowa — became the focus of his work.
As a volunteer, he’s helped the church become a Career Access Point by providing space for staff of Iowa Workforce Development to offer support groups, résumé workshops and online job-search assistance.
“The whole idea is to help our community,” said Tim Phillips, a pastor and director of congregational care.
