It’s not a super-speedy seed for green beans but a new method of preparing the soil of hearts that Sarah Scherschligt recommended during Lent.
The pastor of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Gaithersburg, Md., joined in the city’s ecumenical “carbon fast” to emphasize environmental stewardship.
The fast ended with a groundbreaking for a church garden, with vegetables being planted for a food pantry.
“More important than preparing the soil of the ground is preparing the soil of your heart,” Scherschligt said.
