Lutherans were among participants of The Mobilization to End Poverty in Washington, D.C., April 26-29.
Sojourners, a social justice group, sponsored the event.
The ELCA was one of 23 faith-based groups supporting it. Mark S. Hanson, presiding bishop, was a speaker.
The groups called on President Barack Obama and Congress to make overcoming poverty a political priority and to develop a national plan that addresses this moral and spiritual crisis.
