The table is now set for this summer’s Churchwide Assembly in Minneapolis.
At the end of March the ELCA Church Council passed on to the assembly the issue likely to dominate the gathering: the proposed social statement on sexuality and recommendations on ministry policies.
The documents were little changed by the council from their original form as they came from a task force first set up by the 2001 Churchwide Assembly ("Council moves along sexuality proposals").
Now it’s up to synod assemblies to offer their suggestions and the 2009 assembly to set its rules for voting on some of the documents. Do more than just take others’ words about the documents’ contents, see for yourself. Visit www.elca.org/faithfuljourney for a number of resources. It’s worth the effort.
