Studying 'The Shack'

Like many churches, Trinity Lutheran in Warrenville, Ill., chooses a book for the congregation to read and discuss during Lent.

Bill Shust, worship chair, said 75 percent of the congregation reads the book of choice — in previous years The Purpose Driven Life, The Life You Always Wanted and Velvet Elvis.

None has been universally liked, but they get the congregation talking, he said.

This year, they chose The Shack by William P. Young. “Folks are enjoying The Shack now that they’ve figured out it isn’t about a basketball player,” joked Wende West, pastor.
