Compassion won over economic challenges among players in the Souper Bowl of Caring, a fundraising effort for hunger held on Super Bowl Sunday.
Total contributions at presstime were $9.7 million, including $900,000 from 2,054 Lutheran congregations.
The average collection from churches was $150 higher than last year. “It’s clear that even in these challenging economic times, God’s people are responding to the call to reach out and care for our neighbors in need,” said Tracey Bender of Souper Bowl.
