Deaconess Community turns 125 The ELCA Deaconess Community celebrates its 125th anniversary this year. The deaconesses helped found many Lutheran hospitals, congregations and social ministry organizations through the years. A DVD chronicling the community’s history, how the community evolved to meet changing needs and how its work looks today is available and will be given out at an anniversary banquet in Atlanta in July.
