On Nov. 22, 1970, Elizabeth Platz was ordained by the Lutheran Church in America.
She became the first U.S. Lutheran woman to be ordained.
That December, Barbara Andrews was ordained by the American Lutheran Church.
The ELCA was formed when the LCA, ALC and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches merged in 1987.
