Church leaders on torture

U.S. Roman Catholic bishops and evangelical human rights advocates welcomed President Barack Obama’s Jan. 22 executive order essentially ending torture of detainees held by the U.S. government.

“He has rejected the use of torture as an interrogation technique and allowed the U.S. to again find its moral bearing,” said Linda Gustitus, president of The National Religious Campaign Against Torture.
