While Michigan residents endured an arctic blast, two Lutheran Campus Ministry students started the year learning about fair trade during peak coffee growing season in Nicaragua.
Since returning Jan. 12, Lisa McCarthy and Sarah Swanson (inset) of Northern Michigan University, Marquette, have urged churches and members to buy fair-trade coffee that ensures Nicaraguan farmers don’t lose money in the labor-intensive coffee industry.
