In the land of tamales and fry bread, Loretta Olson 40 years ago took on the task of teaching the people in Tucson, Ariz., about lefse and folk dancing.
Olson, a member of American Lutheran Church, Tucson, grew up on a Minnesota farm surrounded by Scandinavian customs and brought those with her to Arizona in 1963.
Because her handprint is on Tucson’s Scandinavian culture groups, said a columnist in the Arizona Daily Star, she was honored as “Living Cultural Treasure” at the Tucson Meet Yourself annual cultural festival.
