Bankrupted by his son’s Internegambling, Ernst Baasland, bishop of the (Lutheran) Church of Norway’s Stavanger Diocese, said he will resign in June.
Baasland called the bankruptcy “difficult to live with as a bishop.”
Last November, his 34-year-old son admitted to fraud of more than $3 million and to misleading his mother into raising loans from family friends.
A Norwegian court ruled that Baasland was negligent in guaranteeing one of those loans—almost $1 million.
