The Washington, D.C.-based Luther Institute planned a first-ever, pan-Lutheran prayer service for Jan. 18, as the nation prepared for the Jan. 20 inauguration of Barack Obama as president.
The gathering slated for Faith Lutheran Church, Arlington, Va., was to offer worshipers “a service of prayers and hymns during a time of great national crisis, with two wars still being fought and the nation’s economy in grave peril.”
