When Zuleica Arano, 22, was told to pay for her own kidney transplant and advised to “try the local churches” she and her mother, Lucina, turned to Living Lord Lutheran, Bartlett, Ill., among others.
“They stopped at our church and because I speak Spanish, I invited them in and heard their story,” said Jean Duran, pastor.
The visit turned into a partnership with Church of the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic in Schaumburg.
Zuleica successfully received one of her mother’s kidneys and continues to pay for postoperative medications with church help.
