In Merrimac, Wis., Immanuel Lutheran Church’s parsonage doubles as the local food pantry.
The pantry was moved to the pastor’s office in the vacant parsonage in 2004, and when lay minister Joel Bradtke and his wife arrived in 2006 it was still there.
“We were empty-nesters and there is space elsewhere in the parsonage for an office, so we said, ‘Leave it where it is.’”
Ecumenical volunteers serve about a dozen food pantry clients a month.
