The Luther League gang's all here

Come Dec. 31, Luther Leaguers will gather at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Glenvil, Neb., to wish one another “Happy New Year.”

But they aren’t teenagers, though they remember those years well. Except for a couple of years when bad weather prevented their gathering, they’ve rung in the New Year together since the ’30s and ’40s.

“We just decided never to graduate from Luther League,” Darlene Paus explained.

Until Immanuel discontinued its Old Year’s Eve service a few years ago, the parties always began with worship, continued with games and food, and ended with a hymn sing. “God Be with You Till We Meet Again” was the closer.
