God's wider challenge

Is our concept of the church too small?

Your God is Too Small was the challenging title of a book I read many years ago. Lately, some developments among Christians put the challenge in a new form. They ask us to consider whether our concept of the church may be too small.

Our nation has become a vast and varied mission field. Refugees, new immigrants, maturing boomers, generation Xers and seekers of all ages need to hear the gospel and experience the love of God. Their spiritual and material needs are so complex that no on e church body can meet them all. But if we see God working through the gifts of all baptized Christians, no matter what their denomination, then there is a wonderful match between resources and needs.
