Double hook, double blessing

Bertram Boyum, 90, gave children and adults a lesson in husking corn when the four congregations of United Lutheran Parish, Peterson, Minn., held a “Blessing of the Harvest.”

Every spring a small field of corn is planted on the church lot for the “Blessing of the Seed.”

In the fall the corn is harvested.

Boyum, who has husked countless acres of corn the last 75 years, used an old double husking hook on the Arendahl Lutheran Church corn as part of the fall blessing.
