Washington [D.C.] National Cathedral will cut its budget, programs and staff by March 31.
The cathedral, which receives no support from the U.S. Episcopal Church or the federal government, will reduce its budget by 40 percent to $14.4 million, lay off 40 staff and cease residential course offerings at Cathedral College.
“Washington National Cathedral has been affected by the serious downturn in the financial market,” said its dean, Samuel Lloyd III. Last May the cathedral cut $3.5 million by eliminating 33 staff positions.
